Growing up, I was the designated photographer for taking friends’ social media photos; now, my artistic practice dives into the complex themes of femininity, girlhood, and fashion, primarily expressed through a diverse range of photography mediums. I engage with both digital and analog photographic processes, including high-resolution digital capture, 35mm film, and 5x4 large-format film. By finding inspiration in the work of Cindy Sherman’s Untitled Film Stills, and Petra Collins’ editorial fashion photography. I use the visual language of high fashion to emphasize and critically explore feminist ideals, positioning the female subject as an empowered agent. My photographs are often printed using alternative printing methods such as; cyanotype, lumen prints, silver gelatin prints, and screen printing. I use these alternate printing methods that have time, pressure, and light sensitivity to materialize my images and allow them to get manipulated by its process. The foundation of my work often consists of carefully constructing staged photo shoots or using archived media, including childhood photos of myself. My process involves precise studio lighting and fashion styling. A significant portion of my work takes the form of fashion photography editorials. The collaboration inherent in fashion photography is a key component of my practice, finding inspiration with various artists I work with. Allowing me to push the boundaries of visual storytelling and create images that invite viewers to reconsider conventional narratives surrounding girlhood.
